It’s doable, but when officers are tossing grenades in complete disregard of the lives and safety of their blue brethren, it does feel like they’re cheating a bit. Then he has to get scarce even though every officer in the Bay Area has been called on duty for a mass manhunt. Except, there are a couple of required combats in the game, and then there’s the Armored Car opportunity thing where Retr0 stops the armored car (usually by hacking it), then steals the football / intelligence / launch codes, and has to evade chase for a while as the beacon is defused. After all, Retr0 shouldn’t be in combat in the first place. In a stealth game, this should bother me less than it would in a shooter. Who cares if a few blue uniforms go down so long as we get the bad guy? If Retr0 is engaged in close range combat with two officers, that won’t stop a third one from tossing in a grenade, and blowing up the cruiser like a Hollywood Pinto. Moreover our grenade throwers have no concern for their fellows. It usually takes a well practiced quarterback to throw a forty meter long bomb on the gridiron, but in WD2 any combatant can casually toss a grenade right next to Retr0 at long distance. And they use them.Īnd they’re really good at tossing them. They all have an endless supply of the things. It works pretty well and is fun, and those tools work each hack / sneak heist, so Retr0 can choose to go quiet or loud, to kill everyone, or leave them unscathed and wondering what happened.Ĭoncussion grenades. He has a set of tools at his disposal to manipulate the environment and ultimately clear paths to his goals free of hazards. With the exception of a passable connect-the-circuits minigame, hacking focuses on what Retr0 can do by hacking, rather than how he does it.And Lenni, bull-dyke-esque rival hacker whose repugnant character is entirely incidental to her (implied) LGBT+ identity. The game also features Miranda, a transgender City Councilwoman ally. Retr0 and Ratio commiserate life as token black guys in a mostly-white tech-industry hipster culture.
